Date: Friday 22nd of September 10 .30h – 13.30h NOG 1 PLEK!
or 13th of October 10.30h – 13.30h
Students: Maximum 8
Teacher: Bronwen Jones
Price: € 60,- including coffee, thee and some sweat
Materials will be provided.
We will begin with a short introduction about darning and look at some examples. Then the teacher Bronwen will demonstrate the technique and the students practice together. You will start by practicing on scrap fabric, then you can move onto your own garments. You’ll also be encouraged to share stories through your garments while practicing.
Bring some garments/textiles to work on — it is easiest to begin practicing on thicker knits, such as a sweater/scarf/thick socks/blanket… You’re welcome to practice as visibly (and also invisibly) as you like.
No experience is necessary. The workshop will be given in English language.
Bronwen Jones is an artist and textile repairer from the UK. She graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2020 and is based in Amsterdam. In her practice she is interested in the relationship between bodies and garments. For the last two years her main focus has been mending clothing for/with the public as a community-based practice which initiates conversations on care, intimacy and value.
